Leadership is an extremely important function that every manager should have. A good leader helps their teams grow, achieve goals and maximizes their effectiveness over their efficiency.
So what are the 5 reasons why leaders are so important?
#1 Motivation
A good leader motivates his/her team. He/She makes the team feel like they are part of something greater and doing so, gets their buy-in to achieve a goal. A leader can also motivate the team via economic rewards, but usually, the motivation is not monetary.
#2 Guidance
A leader provides a vision. A road map. An end goal. Something that will guide the team in their journey to accomplish their end goal.
#3 Morale
Good morale equals good team collaboration. A good leader focuses on improving the teamwork within the team. He/she fosters trust and confidence, that the team, together, can achieve anything.
#4 Coordination
Like a good maestro, a good leader helps the team coordinate on the work they have to do. He/She helps the team reconcile their personal goals with organizational goals.
#5 Relationships
Management worries about getting the right people for the right job. Leadership worries about getting the right people for the right team. A happy team that can properly communicate within itself, without interpersonal issues, is a team that can be more effective.
Do you still think leadership is a bunch of baloney?
Cheers,
