What is the problem we are trying to solve?

What is wrong with this question? I’ll give you a minute.

This question is usually used when people are brainstorming about something. Should this really be the standard that we measure ourselves at?

Lately, I have been starting to “hate” this question. If this is how we measure anything we do, we are only able to be reactive. What do I mean by that?

If the only time we are going to do something is when we have a problem, well, then we have a problem. I love the quote from Henry Ford

If I had asked people what they wanted they would have said a faster horse.

Sometimes you have to create a solution before anyone realizes that they have a problem. That is true innovation.

What do you think?
